Economic Power of Sacramento State

As California’s capital university, Sacramento State is a powerful engine for economic growth and community transformation. This summary showcases how our investments, graduates, and partnerships generate lasting value for the Sacramento region and the state as a whole.

Regional Impact

  • Within the Sacramento region, Sacramento State-related activity generated a substantial economic impact, supporting 15,400 jobs and contributing $737 million in wages earned.
  • The overall impact of Sacramento State in the Sacramento Valley region is $1.9 billion in industry activity and $153.2 million in state and local tax revenue, underscoring the campuses’ vital role in regional economic vitality.

Return on Investment

  • For every dollar the state invested in the campus, $7.29 was generated in statewide industry activity, increasing to $51.03 when including alumni earnings.

State-Level Impact

  • Within California, Sacramento State-related activity supported 16,000 jobs and contributed $793.8 million in wages earned.
  • The overall impact of Sacramento State within California is $2.1 billion in industry activity and $163.9 million in state and local tax revenue.

Alumni Impact

  • Sacramento State alumni had higher media income attributed to their CSU degrees, totaling $9.9 billion which supported statewide impacts of 49,300 jobs, $3.5 billion wages earned, $12.4 billion in industry activity and $965.8 million in state and local tax revenue.

The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓÆµ's Economic Impact Report--Moving California Forward: The Economic Power of the CSU--highlights the lasting return on invement for the people of California at every level:

  • Economic Return: For every dollar the state invested in the CSU, $7.69 was generated in statewide industry activity, increasing to $35.53 when including alumni earnings across California.
  • Statewide Impact: The CSU supported a total of 210,800 jobs across California with an overall statewide impact of $31.6 billion.
  • Regional Reach: As part of the Sacramento Region, Sacramento State helped generate a substantial economic impact of $2.1B in industry activity underscoring the campuses's vital role in the regional economic vitality.
  • Workforce Power: Nearly half of all bachelor's degrees in Califonria are awarded by the CSU indisciplines directly tied to California's evolving workforce needs, ensuring students are trained for in-demand job in their communities, supporting local economies.
  • Research Impact: CSU research inititatives tackle some of California's most urgent challenges while delivering globally cited science.
